Role Description

The Chief Credit Officer (CCO) at Thrivent Bank is a pivotal leadership role responsible for providing strategic support, direction, credit insights, and robust loan policies to maintain the highest quality of our lending portfolio. Reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer, you will collaborate with the CFO to calculate the Allowance for Credit Losses (ACL), recommend allocations to executive management and the Asset and Liability Committee, and review complex loans before Credit Risk Sub Committee submission. This position oversees department staff, ensures compliance with all state and federal banking regulations, and drives superior customer service across operations.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Supervise multiple employees, carrying out responsibilities in line with Thrivent Bank's policies and applicable laws, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and fostering a high-performance team culture.
  • Champion superior customer service by leading by example, conducting periodic meetings and presentations, and ensuring follow-through with customers and staff.
  • Partner with the CFO to maintain the monthly Allowance for Credit Losses (ACL), analyzing local, regional, and national economic conditions, loan losses, trends, and product concentrations to recommend reserve adjustments to executive management and the Asset and Liability Committee.
  • Review large and complex loans prior to Credit Risk Sub Committee submission, providing recommendations on structure, terms, and pricing to mitigate undue credit risk exposure.
  • Prepare and distribute comprehensive credit information on loan quality trends, growth patterns, and product concentrations; collaborate with Bank personnel on local real estate data and its impact on the loan portfolio.
  • Support the Bank's strategic lending initiatives by developing and enforcing credit policies, procedures, and risk management frameworks.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, identify emerging risks, and implement proactive mitigation strategies to ensure portfolio health and regulatory compliance.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies, auditors, and internal stakeholders to uphold adherence to all banking laws and best practices.
  • Lead credit risk modeling, stress testing, and scenario analysis to inform decision-making and portfolio optimization.

  • Certifications like CPA, CFA, or CRCM are highly desirable.
