Due to an internal development appointment, we are seeking a Legal Counsel (mid-level) to support our growing Government & Defence (G&D) Division—an opportunity to work at the intersection of commercial law, major contracts and national-significance programs.
About the Role
As a Legal Counsel (mid-level), you will play a pivotal role in providing high-quality legal advice and commercial support across the G&D Division. Reporting to the Lead Counsel, you’ll work closely with senior leadership and operational teams to proactively manage legal risk, ensure compliance, and contribute to the Division’s strategic objectives. You will bring strong commercial acumen, excellent communication skills and confidence in managing complex negotiations. This role could be based in Brisbane or Perth.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, draft and negotiate bespoke and complex contracts aligned with Toll’s preferred positions.
- Partner with G&D stakeholders to understand operational requirements and provide practical legal solutions.
- Support the strategies and initiatives set by the Lead Counsel to achieve divisional legal objectives.
- Contribute to group-wide legal projects and assist other Toll Group lawyers where required.
- Provide support to the Global Logistics Australia legal team.
- Prepare inputs for the monthly Divisional Legal Report.
- Ensure currency of knowledge in legislation and regulatory changes affecting the business.
About You
- Minimum 3+ years post-qualification experience.
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
- Experience leading complex, face-to-face negotiations.
- Current unrestricted Australian practising certificate.
- High levels of professional integrity and ethical standards.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Advantageous experience: Government & Defence contracting, aviation, or defence procurement.
