Description:

Interpret physician orders, screen profiles for drug interactions, refill medication orders from patient profile, compound I.V. admixtures and perform duties of a Registered Pharmacist with the attendant supervision of a Registered Pharmacist. The pharmacy intern will help cover nights and weekends at the MedsToGo Pharmacy

What the Community Pharmacy Intern will need:

  • High school graduate or equivalent level of competency required.
  • Current acceptance/enrollment in an accredited pharmacy program. Internship license required within 3 months of hire.
  • Well-developed communication skills, both written and oral. Able to communicate effectively with individuals and groups representing diverse perspectives.

What the Community Pharmacy Intern will do:

  • Triage telephone/window inquiries effectively and with an excellent customer service focus
  • Inventories and prepares controlled substances for pharmacy and patient care areas under the direct supervision of a pharmacist: Completes an inventory of controlled substances kept in the IV room at the end of each shift documented on both the daily IV room maintenance log and the controlled substance accountability record (CSAR).
  • Prepares total parenteral nutrition using the automix machine. Calibrate the machine as defined by policy: Documents all procedures relating to TPN preparation. (Calibration of the auto-mix compounder, tubing and bag change over and hood cleaning before and after)
  • Cleans and sterilizes equipment per policy. Documents hood cleaning routines on every shift.
  • Maintains a clean and stocked work environment. Orders necessary supplies.
  • Monitors quality control of hoods/refrigerators/freezers. Maintains documentation of pharmacy functions per policy/procedure/standard
