We’re seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to anchor a major opportunity in our growing inpatient and ambulatory surgery center (ASC) sites. This role will oversee key departments including Endoscopy, Peri anesthesia, and Central Sterile, driving excellence across the continuum of care.
A strong Robotics program serves as a cornerstone of this initiative, offering cutting-edge capabilities and innovation. This is a significant leadership role—ideal for someone ready to shape the future of surgical services and elevate patient outcomes.
  • GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

    The Director of Perioperative Services is responsible for directing the activities and functions of Surgical Services, which includes the Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care, Endoscopy and Ambulatory Surgery. Responsible for direction and coordination of the personnel involved in the provision of nursing services within these departments. Collaborates with physicians for the implementation of policies, procedures, standards, and regulations for the departments to facilitate optimal Nursing care. Assumes 24-hour responsibility, authority, and accountability for patient care activities and service operations. The director is tasked with creating a delivery system that provides care to populations of patients in accordance with the mission and values of St. Joseph’s Health. The Director is responsible for growing the service line into a high quality, profitable and marketable line of business and has overall administrative responsibility for the operations of all components of inpatient and ambulatory Surgical Services and Related Health System entities.  Focused on outcomes for populations, when appropriate, the Director of Perioperative Services advances the clinical, financial, patient experience and operational performance of designated value systems, and engages key stakeholders, to determine care delivery improvement and collaboration opportunities across the enterprise and community.  

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Serves as Service Line Director for Surgical Services, including inpatient and outpatient Surgical Services inclusive of Practices, Surgical Clinics, Ambulatory Surgery Centers and Peri-Operative Services, including Pre-Admissions Testing and Central Sterile. Coaches, mentors, delegates, empowers and acts as resource to managers, coordinators and colleagues. Develops/manages physician strategies, relationships, physician/clinician and Medical Director contracts. Oversees internal clinical audits to ensure regulatory, clinical and billing compliance. Responsible for negotiating contracts with public and private payors. Assesses the goals and needs of key stakeholders in order to provide services they need and value. Identifies best practices and implements innovative approaches to improve care. Integrates regulatory, payor and accrediting requirements into daily operations. Maintains accountability for development, implementation and financial management of the service line. Develops strategies and methodologies to support and grow the business lines.  Investigates the expansion or creation of new services in conjunction with other stakeholders. Responsible for the development and implementation of marketing activities associated with the service line. Meets organization’s Customer Services Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations. Fosters a collegial environment within and across service lines.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

    Current license as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State or ability to transfer licenses. Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree preferred; Bachelors or Master’s degree must be in nursing. A minimum of 7 years professional healthcare experience with 2 years in a supervisory position with progressive management responsibilities required. A minimum of 7 years nursing experience within Perioperative Services, with 2 in a supervisory position with progressive management responsibilities required. Demonstrated strategic development, operational skills, and effectiveness in leading change. Evidence of effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Evidence of ability to effectively develop and coach multidisciplinary teams.  Experience in program development, service line management desired. Knowledge of relevant legislative and regulatory requirements in relevant field. National specialty certification in area of expertise or in nursing administration preferred; CNOR certification is preferred Operating Room experience in a hospital or ambulatory surgery setting will be considered



    PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

    This position operates in a typical office environment.  The area is well lit, temperature-controlled and free from hazards. 

    Incumbent communicates frequently, in person and over the telephone, with people in a number of different locations on interpersonal, strategic, regulatory, and technical issues. 

    Manual dexterity is needed in order to operate a keyboard.  Hearing is needed for extensive telephone and in person communications. 

    The environment in which the incumbent will work requires the ability to concentrate, meet deadlines, work on several projects at the same period and adapt to interruptions.

    Must be able to set and organize own work priorities and adapt to them as they change frequently.

    Must be able to travel to the various Trinity Health sites (up to 50%) as needed (may or may not apply).

    Must be able to adapt to frequently changing work priorities and be able to balance the needs and expectations of System Office, Regional Health Ministry, and TH leadership and colleagues.
