Description:

Trinity Health Grand Rapids Hospital, 3 Lacks is a 32 all private bed acute care unit that serves patients that are 65 & older.  A high acuity adaptable unit; regularly have patients who are on telemetry, cardiac drips, high-flow oxygen; bi-pap; etc.

Under the general direction of the Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse - LPN provides direct patient care to all ages of patients. The LPN assists the Registered Nurse - RN in performing and coordinating direct patient care for a specific group of patients. Full access to medications is given to the incumbent of this position as the job responsibilities include handling, preparing, and administering medications within the LPN scope of practice and job description.

What you will need:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and graduate of an accredited LPN program

  • Current Practical Nurse license in the State of Michigan.

  • CPR or BLS Certified

What you will do:

  • Under the direction of the RN, assists with the initial and ongoing assessment of assigned patients through observation and data collection, as delegated by the RN

  • Performs activities which may be delegated by the RN and/or Physician, including but not limited to:

  • Venipuncture for specimens including blood cultures.

  • Initiates and discontinues intravenous, i.e., peripheral short catheters.

  • Inserts and discontinues indwelling and intermittent clean urinary catheterization.

  • Obtains laboratory specimens and performs basic laboratory procedures, i.e., point -of-care blood glucose, stool sampling, sputum collection, etc.

  • Performs basic bedside care and selected procedures under the supervision of the RN: 12 -lead ECG; dressing changes; routine respiratory care (i.e. coughing and deep breathing, incentive spirometry, pulse oximetry, oxygen setup and administration, handheld nebulizer); vital signs; recognition, reporting, an intervention for life-threatening conditions.

  • Administers physician-directed treatments such as eye irrigation, etc.

  • Other unit-specific activities such as activities of daily living appropriate to the patient's condition
