Job Description

Engineering Manager II, Configuration Platform

đź“‹ Job Overview

The Engineering Manager II for Uber's Configuration Platform will lead a team responsible for managing and distributing configuration changes across Uber's systems. This role involves driving technical alignment, executing roadmaps, and mentoring a team of software engineers to enhance system reliability and scalability. The position requires experience in managing global engineering teams and a strong ability to architect high-scale systems.

📍 Location: Aarhus, Denmark

🏢 Department: Engineering

đź“„ Full Description

**About the Role**

Uber builds and maintains a wide range of domain-specific configuration products that enable the management and distribution of configuration changes across our systems. These products serve diverse use cases — from UI-based tools that allow city teams to update product configurations, to Git-based interfaces designed for engineers. For example, our systems support Infrastructure as Code (IaC), experimentation frameworks (A/B testing and [Citrus](https://www.uber.com/en-DK/blog/making-ubers-experiment-evaluation-engine-100x-faster/)), and even mobile applications.

Although these configuration products differ in their applications, they share common components that can be consolidated. This consolidation simplifies operations, reduces maintenance overhead, and enhances reliability. The Configuration Platform team owns services within this space, driving consistency and scalability across Uber’s tech stack.

Our services are primarily written in Go, with a strong emphasis on clean, maintainable code supported by unit and integration tests. All code changes undergo peer review. Today, our systems support hundreds of configuration types and serve hundreds of thousands of configurations across Uber’s technology ecosystem.

Looking ahead, we are tackling impactful efficiency initiatives and continuing to expand the platform to unify the developer experience, making it easier and more efficient for engineers to run their services.

Our team includes both junior and senior engineers with diverse industry backgrounds. We value ideas over hierarchy, execution over bureaucracy, and measurable impact on the business. We collaborate closely with partner teams across San Francisco, Sunnyvale, Seattle, and Amsterdam.

We are seeking an **Engineering Manager II** to lead, mentor, and grow this talented team.

**What You Will Do**

- Drive the technical alignment internally and with partner teams
- Own roadmap execution and delivery of projects with high quality
- Grow, mentor, and develop a team of skilled and experienced software engineers
- Recruit high-quality engineering talent for the team
- Contribute to the engineering culture and uphold the processes that will shape the team
- Help defining the future of Uber Configuration Platform

**Basic Qualifications**

- 4+ years managing global cross-functional engineering teams through technical leads in a hyper-growth environment
- Experience supporting team actively via career mentor & development, handling performance, and influencing partner teams
- Experience going through the full software cycle from requirements, design, coding, testing, continuous integration, delivery, and ongoing management of world-class software and services
- A strong ability to architect and design robust, high-scale systems and to challenge engineers to think bigger and more generically in developing their solutions

**Preferred Qualifications**

- Experience with Amazon AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or similar
- Experience with container platforms such as Kubernetes or Mesos
- Experience in building large-scale distributed systems
- Track record working across an extensive organization not just across teams
