This role requires sharp judgment, business acumen, risk tolerance, and the ability to influence other stakeholders as the business operates at an urgent pace.

This is not a role for following a playbook; you will be writing one in real-time for a rapidly evolving, high-stakes environment. You'll navigate critical litigation, major policy shifts, and the pressure of public scrutiny, making decisions that have immediate real-world impact on millions of users and earners, while managing a team. The challenge of building trust and driving the business forward in this high-growth environment is what makes this work so profoundly meaningful.

**What You’ll Do**

- Lead and develop the in-country legal team, fostering a high-performance culture that operates as a core business partner across all functions in the Mexico market.
- Act as the chief legal counsel and a trusted advisor to the Mexico General Manager and the cross-functional leadership team on country-level strategy, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
- Navigate and direct legal strategy for critical, high-profile litigation, regulatory challenges, and public policy issues that shape the future of ridesharing and delivery in Mexico.
- Manage high-stakes external counsel relationships, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with our internal standards and commitment to diversity.
- Translate legal complexity into clear, systems-based, and actionable advice that enables continuous innovation and efficiency across the Uber Rides and Uber Eats platforms.
- How you’ll spend your time:

- 30% Strategic Decision-Making and Policy Influence
- 30% Team Leadership and Development
- 20% High-Stakes Litigation and Risk Management
- 20% Cross-Functional Alignment and Internal Consulting

**What You’ll Need**

- 12+ years of significant post-qualification experience (PQE) in a top-tier law firm or as in-house counsel, with at least 5+ years in a leadership role managing a legal team.
- Law degree (JD or equivalent) from an accredited university and admitted to practice law in Mexico.
- LLM from a university in an English-speaking country, or equivalent professional experience in such jurisdiction.
- Professional working fluency in both Spanish and English (written and verbal) is required to draft legal documents and advise senior global stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience navigating high-stakes regulatory matters in Mexico's legal environment.
- Strong background in high-stakes administrative litigation.
- Inclusive leadership style that fosters collaboration, trust, and accountability.

**Preferred qualifications**

- Proven ability to lead through ambiguity and make rapid, high-quality decisions with incomplete information and shifting priorities.
- History of effectively managing a high-volume litigation portfolio and driving policy outcomes with governmental agencies.
- Strong cross-functional influence skills to drive One Uber decisions and align diverse regional and global teams on a unified legal strategy.

### **Who We’re Looking For**

- A business-minded lawyer who sees the law as a tool to enable growth, not just to manage risk.
- A creative problem solver who thrives in ambiguity and finds practical solutions where there’s no clear rulebook.
- Someone who uses influence and persuasion, not hierarchy, to move people and decisions forward.
- A confident communicator who isn’t afraid to use their voice, even when their view is unpopular, and knows how to do so with tact and credibility.
- A strong partner to the business: proactive, curious, and able to translate complex legal issues into clear, actionable guidance.
- A calm, steady presence under pressure who keeps perspective and helps others do the same.
- A people leader who raises the bar for their team, develops talent, and fosters trust and accountability.
