**About the Role**

The Gifting team sits within Financial Products and operates at the intersection of social connection and financial transactions.

As a Senior Engineer on this team, you will build user-facing Gifting products on the Uber platform, creating seamless experiences that interface with the Uber apps. You will tackle unique engineering challenges related to extreme seasonality and high-concurrency traffic (e.g., handling massive spikes during holidays like Christmas, Mother’s Day, and Valentine’s Day). You will own the reliability of money-movement systems where accuracy is paramount, designing systems that are not only scalable but also secure and compliant across global markets.

1. Collaborate closely with product, design, and business teams to design and implement new product ideas and business needs with a scalable solution
2. Drive adoption of best practices in code health, testing, and maintainability
3. Play an active role in the team's technical design choices, code reviews, and documentation
4. Mentor and guide junior engineers on technical designs, coding best practices, and architecture.

\-\-\-\- Basic Qualifications ----

1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
2. 5+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer.
3. Proven experience in software development, with a strong understanding of programming languages such as Go, Java, Python, or C++.
4. Strong experience with backend development and microservices architecture.
5. Experience with data analytics and experimental design in an engineering context.
6. Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for innovation.
7. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

1. Strong sense of ownership
2. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
3. Highly efficient coding in Golang, Java or any similar languages.
4. Strong background in data analytics tools such as Hive, or similar.
5. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and testing frameworks.
6. Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience in mentoring and guiding junior engineers.
7. Proven experience of shipping high-quality product features on schedule and with high velocity
8. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to articulate complex ideas to various stakeholders.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$198,000 per year - USD$220,000 per year.

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$198,000 per year - USD$220,000 per year.
