**About the Team:**

The Online Data Platform teams at Uber build and operate the foundational real-time data systems that power all critical use cases across the company. These include our databases, OLAP systems, search infrastructure, and real-time streaming platforms.

1\. Database Platform: A mix of internally developed systems and managed open-source software such as TiDB, Cassandra, Vitess, MySQL, and ETCD/Zookeeper.

2\. Search Platform: Builds Uber’s search ecosystem on top of Lucene and OpenSearch.

3\. OLAP Platform: Powered by technologies like Apache Pinot/ClickHouse.

4\. Streaming Platform: Provides Kafka and Flink as managed services.

**About the Role:**

We are looking for a Senior Staff Engineer to join our Bangalore office and shape the future of Uber’s Online Data Platform. You will drive the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for next-generation online data systems that scale to Uber’s global needs.

**What You’ll Do:**

You will lead one or more of the following initiatives:

1\. Modernize our database systems with next-generation SQL solutions.

2\. Drive Kubernetes adoption across the online data ecosystem.

3\. Evolve our OpenSearch and Lucene-based search systems for improved scalability and reliability.

4\. Push the boundaries of our OLAP and streaming platforms, focusing on efficiency, velocity, and modernization.

5\. Collaborate across multiple data and infrastructure teams to align technical direction and ensure long-term reliability and efficiency.

6\. Mentor senior engineers and influence engineering culture through technical excellence and thought leadership.

**Basic Qualifications:**

1\. Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

2\. 12+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems in a high-caliber engineering environment.

3\. Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, Go, or Python.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

1\. 12+ years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems or online data infrastructure.

2\. Deep technical expertise in one or more of the following areas: databases, streaming systems, OLAP, or search technologies.

3\. Proven experience with cloud-native ecosystems and Kubernetes operators.

4\. Strong track record of driving architecture and technical roadmaps for complex, high-scale systems.

5\. Exceptional ability to influence cross-organizational decisions and mentor senior engineers.

6\. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

7\. Experience contributing to or working with open-source projects and ecosystems.
