Role Overview

The Ubuntu Enablement Software Engineering Manager role in Taipei, Taiwan, is a pivotal leadership position within Canonical's Device Delivery Team. You will spearhead a software engineering team delivering high-impact OEM enablement projects in a fast-paced environment. This office-based role demands deep Linux knowledge, exceptional management skills, and the ability to navigate complex technical challenges with global partners. Key Responsibilities

• Recruit, motivate, mentor, and empower your team to deliver top-quality Ubuntu enablement products on schedule.
• Define team goals, prioritize tasks, and track health indicators to maximize performance and career development.
• Collaborate with project managers, hardware enablement (HWE), QA, and certification teams for seamless execution.
• Monitor projects end-to-end, handle escalations, and resolve technical issues with OEMs, ODMs, SiPs, and IHVs.
• Prioritize global customer requests and partner with Canonical's product teams in Desktop, Foundations, Kernel, and Security.
• Champion engineering methodologies, strategies, standards, tools, and best practices across the team.
• Travel as needed to EU, USA, China, and Taiwan to build relationships and drive initiatives.

Qualifications & Requirements

To succeed, candidates must hold a Bachelor's or higher degree in STEM, ideally Computer Science or Software Engineering. A proven track record in technical Linux roles, especially Ubuntu or Debian, is essential. Experience in management, commitment to robust development and testing practices, and maintainable code are non-negotiable. You thrive in distributed teams through self-discipline, deliver under pressure, and communicate fluently in English and Chinese.

• Technical leadership in decision-making and software architecture.
• Hands-on experience with Ubuntu kernel/userspace, packaging (deb/snap), virtualization (QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD), containers, Python, Go, C, bash, databases (Postgresql, Mongo), Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, or AI/ML.
