Position Summary

As Utility - Marine with ConocoPhillips' Polar Tankers subsidiary, you'll play a crucial role in marine transportation of North Slope production. Polar Tankers operates five double-hulled Endeavour-class tankers—Polar Endeavour, Polar Resolution, Polar Discovery, Polar Adventure, and Polar Enterprise—delivering oil from Valdez, Alaska, to West Coast U.S. refineries. We also charter third-party vessels as needed.

This safety-sensitive, full-time position is based in Houston, Texas, with no relocation available. Assigned to Deck, Engine, or Steward Departments, you'll handle versatile duties under the Chief Mate, First Engineer, or Steward. Expect 12-hour shifts including 4 hours overtime, with extended time away from home exceeding two months. Enforce rules, participate in drills, and prevent pollution while supporting vessel operations.

What You Will Do

Engine Department Duties

Under the First Assistant Engineer:

  • Clean decks and ladder ways
  • Replenish materials, rag bins; empty trash; organize tools and stores; paint; assist maintenance
  • Navigate engine room spaces to avoid hazards and respond in emergencies
  • Learn plant and machinery operations
  • Participate in upkeep and maintenance

Deck Department Duties

Under the Chief Mate:

  • Perform sanitation in houses, passages, common areas, and heads
  • Assist mooring lines during docking/undocking and secure deck for sea
  • Support cargo operations
  • Maintain deck areas and equipment
  • Serve as lookout during port arrivals/departures or as required by Master
