We're seeking an exceptional Machine Learning Engineering Manager to lead our biometric ML efforts in Tallinn, Spain (remote-friendly). This senior leadership role focuses on building state-of-the-art face biometrics, liveness detection, and anti-spoofing systems that scale to millions of global verifications daily.

In this position, you'll manage a team of elite data scientists and ML engineers owning the complete lifecycle of production biometric models—from cutting-edge research and training to deployment, monitoring, and relentless iteration against evolving threats like deepfakes and synthetic identities. Your work directly enhances authentication accuracy, combats fraud, and builds user trust worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

As Machine Learning Engineering Manager, you'll drive technical excellence and team success through these core responsibilities:

• Lead and scale a high-impact team of data scientists and ML engineers specializing in face biometrics and liveness detection.
• Architect team structure, implement research-to-production workflows, and establish clear ownership with KPIs.
• Own end-to-end biometric ML delivery: data pipelines, model training, evaluation frameworks, deployment, and production monitoring.
• Champion development of SOTA face recognition, liveness, and anti-spoofing models emphasizing robustness and fairness.
• Translate business challenges in verification, authentication, and fraud into precise ML objectives, metrics, and roadmaps.
• Partner with ML Platform for optimized training infrastructure, scalable inference, observability, and drift detection.
• Integrate GDPR, eIDAS, and responsible AI principles throughout model design, training, and evaluation processes.
• Foster a culture of scientific rigor, rapid experimentation, cross-team collaboration, and flawless execution.
• Proactively counter emerging threats including deepfakes, replay attacks, and generative AI-based identity fraud.
• Mentor senior talent, accelerating their technical expertise and leadership capabilities.
• Monitor live model performance, diagnose issues, and orchestrate continuous improvement cycles.
• Shape Veriff's biometric strategy, influencing long-term R&D investments and technology direction.
• Lead hiring efforts to attract world-class ML talent to the Face Intelligence team.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise and leadership in applied ML. You excel if you have:

• 8+ years in machine learning/computer vision with 3+ years managing ML teams.
• Proven success delivering production biometric systems at global scale.
• Expertise in face recognition, liveness detection, deepfake mitigation, and anti-spoofing.
• End-to-end ML ownership experience including MLOps, CI/CD for models, and monitoring.
• Strong Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, and cloud ML platforms proficiency.
• Deep knowledge of biometric regulations and privacy frameworks.
• Track record building and scaling high-performing data science organizations.
• MS/PhD in CS, ML, or equivalent with publications in top CV/ML conferences preferred.

Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: $140,000 - $200,000 USD base (competitive total compensation including equity).
