Key Responsibilities at Datadog

• Advance the visual craft of Datadog's cloud monitoring dashboards while staying grounded in our established UX framework
• Polish and refine existing UI components across observability products to elevate clarity, visual cohesion, and consistency
• Design high-quality visual artifacts including custom illustrations, icons, visual systems, and states for micro-interactions
• Collaborate closely with product designers to ensure visual updates perfectly align with UX goals and user needs
• Push boundaries by working outside Datadog's current design system to contribute innovative visual patterns and refinements
• Ensure all visuals meet accessibility standards (WCAG), are scalable across devices, and production-ready for engineering handoff
• Partner directly with engineering teams to support implementation, QA visual fidelity, and maintain quality standards
• Align with Datadog's broader design organization to establish visual standards and contribute to company-wide best practices
• Create distinctive visual experiences that resonate with our audience of cloud architects, SREs, and DevOps engineers
• Deliver pixel-perfect interfaces for complex data visualization in monitoring, APM, and security platforms

Qualifications & Requirements

• 5+ years professional experience as a visual designer or UI designer working on complex software products
• Exceptional visual craft skills demonstrated through mastery of layout, color theory, typography, spacing, and visual hierarchy
• Proven portfolio of high-quality UI visuals for technical or data-heavy applications
• Demonstrated ability designing icons, illustrations, motion graphics, and micro-interaction states
• Experience with design systems - either contributing to or building scalable component libraries
• Strong collaboration skills communicating visual direction clearly to cross-functional partners including PMs and engineers
• Deep understanding of accessibility principles, visual hierarchy, and creating user-centered interfaces for professional audiences
• Self-directed with ability to work independently while deeply collaborating in team environments

Nice to Have: Experience designing for analytics platforms, monitoring tools, data visualization, B2B SaaS environments, or evolving enterprise design systems.

Salary & Benefits

The reasonably estimated hourly rate for this Visual Designer contract role at Datadog ranges from $75-$100 USD, depending on experience and qualifications. Contract positions offer competitive compensation with potential for extension based on project needs and performance.
