About the Role

Wayfair is building a best-in-class logistics network with asset-based warehouses to speed up deliveries, add services, and reduce damage in the furniture and home goods space. The Mechanic II role in the Romeoville, Illinois warehouse is crucial for maintaining high delivery standards and customer satisfaction through reliable equipment operation. This position supports the Distribution team's mission to drive repeat business by ensuring minimal downtime in fast-paced warehouse operations handling large-scale order fulfillment and logistics. As a highly self-motivated Mechanic II, you will diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on material handling equipment including conveyors, forklifts, and automated systems essential to Wayfair's supply chain. Thriving in a collaborative, determined environment, you'll partner with operations teams to optimize performance, improve efficiency, and uphold safety protocols in a high-volume distribution center focused on physical asset management and customer-centric logistics.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on warehouse material handling equipment
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues
• Inspect and test conveyors, forklifts, and other logistics machinery
• Respond to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime
• Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance activities
• Collaborate with warehouse operations team to optimize equipment performance
• Ensure compliance with safety standards in distribution center
• Support inventory accuracy by maintaining reliable equipment uptime
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for logistics network

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2+ years of experience as a mechanic in warehouse or logistics environment
• Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing material handling equipment
• Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems
• Ability to work in a fast-paced warehouse setting
• Valid driver's license
• Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform manual labor

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with conveyor systems and automated warehouse equipment
• ASE certification or equivalent
• Familiarity with Wayfair logistics operations
• Forklift maintenance certification
