Join Wise as Engineering Lead - Business Expense Management and lead a growing team revolutionizing how small businesses handle global employee expenses. You'll own the technical roadmap for features like receipt collection, automated expense reporting, policy enforcement, and innovative business card products, leveraging cutting-edge LLM technologies for document scanning and reconciliation. Serving over 700,000 businesses worldwide, your work will simplify complex financial processes, bridge roadmaps across Spend, Business, and Account squads, and deliver measurable impact by saving businesses time and reducing hassle. In this hands-on leadership role, you'll design robust distributed systems, mentor junior and senior engineers, ensure code quality through reviews, and collaborate with Product Managers and stakeholders to prioritize high-impact initiatives. With full ownership from ideation to release, you'll guide the team through technical challenges in a complex domain, fostering growth while driving business outcomes. Work globally with Wise's mission to build the best way to move and manage money for everyone, everywhere.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the team's technical roadmap, partnering with Product Manager and other squads
  • Design and build robust distributed backend systems for expense management features
  • Lead development of new solutions including receipt collection, expense reports, policy enforcement, and LLM-powered automation
  • Own technical roadmap ensuring high standards of code quality and maintainability
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership through architectural design, code reviews, and best practices
  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of engineers, fostering technical growth
  • Participate in product roadmapping and strategy sessions
  • Collaborate with Business, Spend, and Account squads to define Wise Business spending experience

Required Qualifications

  • Strong background in software engineering with experience designing and building complex, scalable systems
  • Expertise in delivering reliable and robust services in a production environment
  • Experience working with distributed systems and discussing technical tradeoffs
  • Strong sense of ownership and product mindset, understanding business and customer impact
  • Empathetic leadership skills with a track record of mentoring and coaching engineers at all levels
  • Excellent communication skills, articulating technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
