As Engineering Lead - Screening Handling, you'll lead a team building a high-throughput screening engine to prevent sanctioned usage, mitigate risks from politically exposed persons, and ensure regulatory compliance. Tackle exciting challenges like scaling the screening engine for millions of checks without compromising speed, improving name matching algorithms to cut false positives, automating alert reviews, and creating customer-facing UIs—all while maintaining security and auditability as Wise grows rapidly. You'll take full ownership of technical quality, from code and architecture to performance and reliability, while driving your team's productivity through mentoring, goal-setting, and career development. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Screening Handling team building a high throughput screening engine against millions of sanctioned entities
• Own, improve and maintain name matching and text normalisation algorithms to reduce false positives
• Scale operations by improving alert review tools and automation while ensuring compliance and auditability
• Build customer-facing UI for convenient collection of information and documents
• Ensure quality of technical solutions including code quality, architecture, performance, reliability and standards adherence
• Drive team productivity, goal setting, career path identification, mentoring and support
• Stay ahead of changing global regulatory requirements
• Reduce screening impact on customer experience with smarter screening and automation

Required Qualifications

• Experience working with Java, Spring framework, asynchronous message queues and microservices architecture
• Experience leading, coaching and mentoring high performing teams, building development plans and setting personal goals
• Comfortable working on big challenges and taking full ownership of the customer journey
• Experience building and designing scalable and performing systems
• Comfortable with SQL databases, optimisation and transaction
