As a Senior Software Engineer I, you'll drive critical projects on innovative products like Payment Links, Invoices, QuickPay, and Pay With Wise, making international payments cheaper and more convenient. Collaborate with PMs and leads to shape the roadmap, mentor juniors, and build scalable backend solutions that integrate Wise effortlessly into customer websites, serving over 20k active users and growing. Leverage your expertise in backend languages like Java, Python or Go, distributed systems, and APIs to define technical vision and deliver high-impact features with a strong product mindset. Key Responsibilities

• Drive the team's most critical projects
• Define the technical vision for our domain
• Mentor and guide more junior engineers
• Collaborate with PM and Engineer Lead to build the team roadmap
• Deliver value to customers
• Build solutions for customers to integrate Wise into their website to take payments
• Improve our Invoice and Payment Link product
• Work on products like Payment Links, Invoice, QuickPay, and Pay With Wise

Required Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in backend programming languages like Java, Python or Go
• In-depth knowledge of database systems, including both SQL and NoSQL databases
• Expertise in designing and implementing RESTful APIs, as well as asynchronous systems
• Experience working with distributed systems and building financially correct systems using distributed system patterns
• Experience working in product-led companies, with a strong product mindset that prioritises user needs and business goals
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to break down complex problems into shippable milestones that deliver value fast
• Curiosity and drive for continuous learning and improvement

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Java and Spring Boot
• Experience with a messaging system, like Kafka
• Being part of the on-call rotation for our critical services
