As a Senior Software Engineer I - Java on our General team in Global (Singapore), you'll join a growing team to build beautifully simple experiences that guide millions of customers through seamless international transfers, spending, and payments. Help scale Wise to impact hundreds of millions more by working on core flows, creating self-service solutions, and automating resolutions to ensure the best customer experience even when things go awry. You'll hide complexities under the hood, craft clear interfaces with a focus on consistency, performance, and user needs, while proactively tackling technical debt and driving impactful product improvements. Lead medium to large projects (8-16 weeks), own your technical domain, architect scalable services, and collaborate across product, design, operations, and more. With a strong product mindset, mentor juniors, and communicate effectively, you'll empower teams like Operations and Customer Support. Key Responsibilities

• Build seamless experiences for customers by hiding product complexities
• Work on core Wise flows, building self-service solutions and efficient tooling for Operations
• Create clear, consistent, maintainable, and performant interfaces
• Take initiative to identify and solve important problems
• Coordinate on cross-cutting technical issues
• Drive product improvements impacting customer experience or empowering internal stakeholders
• Proactively identify and tackle technical debt through planning and team alignment

Required Qualifications

• Solid Java 17+ knowledge and experience with Spring framework
• Experience working with relational and non-relational databases, query optimisation and schema design
• Strong product mindset, prioritising customer needs and making data-driven decisions
• Led the design and development of complex engineering solutions with broader business impact
• Excellent communication skills to articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level developers

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with financial systems including payments and digital onboarding flows
• Groovy experience
• Experience in technical leadership, managing performance, giving feedback, and coaching engineers
