As a Software Engineer in the AML Risk team, you'll help detect and prevent money laundering, advancing our mission of Clean Money without Borders. You'll collaborate with Product, Data Science, and Analytics teams to fight crime and respond to evolving money laundering trends, building a global detection system powered by Machine Learning, LLMs, and real-time transaction monitoring at scale to catch suspicious activity early in the customer lifecycle. Success means onboarding into our team vision, understanding Wise's AML challenges, and making data-driven contributions guided by our values. Key Responsibilities

• Build global money laundering detection system using Machine Learning, LLMs and real-time transaction monitoring at scale
• Detect and prevent money laundering to support team mission of Clean Money without Borders
• Work closely with cross-functional team (Product, Data Science, Analytics) to fight crime
• Respond to evolving trends in Money Laundering
• Identify suspicious activity early in customer lifecycle
• Collaborate daily with product managers, data scientists, analysts and engineers
• Onboard and contribute to team and tribe vision
• Understand AML landscape at Wise and solve largest challenges

Required Qualifications

• Strong product mindset, prioritising customers and operational teams with data-driven decisions
• Great communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
• 2+ years working with Object Oriented Programming Languages (JVM based a plus)
• Experience with Event Streaming Platforms and microservices
• Experience working with relational databases, query optimisation and designing schemas

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience writing testable code
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines
• Hands-on knowledge of system integration patterns
• Belief in and following best coding practices, code reviews and open feedback
• Experience with machine learning basics (data pipelines, feature engineering, recall/precision, familiarity with ML systems in production)
