We're seeking a Japanese-speaking Full Stack Software Engineer to join our growing team in Singapore, building beautifully simple experiences that enable customers to live, travel, and work without borders. You'll play a key role in scaling Wise to hundreds of millions of users by integrating with APAC central bank payment schemes, developing scalable systems, and collaborating across teams to launch best-in-class products. In this role, you'll hide product complexities, design fault-tolerant systems meeting strict SLAs, drive customer-focused improvements, and mentor others while owning large projects. With a strong product mindset, data-driven decisions, and native Japanese skills for business interactions, you'll tackle technical debt and innovate in a diverse, inclusive environment. Key Responsibilities

• Help scale Wise to impact hundreds of millions more customers by building seamless experiences
• Implement direct integrations with central bank payment schemes across APAC
• Develop innovative and scalable systems for complex product integrations with banking schemes and partners
• Collaborate with diverse stakeholders including banking, compliance, sanctions, and operations to launch products
• Design and build systems that operate and scale to meet strict SLAs
• Drive product improvements impacting customer experience or empowering internal teams
• Proactively identify and tackle technical debt with careful planning
• Actively assist in scoping and executing impactful work, deliver large features, embrace ownership, architect systems, and lead projects

Required Qualifications

• Native Japanese speaker, proficient in reading, writing, and speaking with Japanese business counterparts
• Strong product mindset and passion for user experience, prioritizing customers and making data-driven decisions
• Excellent communication skills to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Experience building highly available and fault tolerant systems
• Passionate about writing testable code and practising Test Driven Development
• Committed to best coding practices, including thorough code reviews and welcoming feedback
• Enthusiastic about tackling complex product problems and challenging the product roadmap
• Provides technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level developers
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases, query optimisation, and schema design
• Familiar with Continuous Delivery Approach mindset

Preferred Qualifications

• Solid Java 13+ knowledge and experience with Spring framework
• Experience with financial systems, especially building and maintaining instant payment schemes
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL, advanced types and query features
• Experience with event driven architecture and messaging systems like Kafka, MQs
