About the Role

The Payin Platform team at Wise owns the critical systems through which all money flows into Wise, enabling customers to top-up accounts, send money across borders, or receive payments seamlessly. As a Software Engineer, you'll build and maintain our internal API product that makes it easy for teams to integrate new payment methods—from topping up USD with BRL via Pix to businesses accepting HUF credit card payments—while providing a unified view of money movement. This role is at the heart of Wise's money-movement machine, helping us scale globally with min fees, max ease, and full speed. You'll collaborate across teams to solve complex technical challenges, automate for scalability, and deliver customer value through incremental milestones. Success means deeply understanding payment issues, championing clean, performant code, and contributing to a world-class banking product that impacts lives worldwide. Key Responsibilities

• Onboard and contribute to team and tribe vision
• Understand and apply Wise values to guide your work
• Understand reasons behind problematic payments and customer difficulties and solve them
• Raise the automation level to enable scaling of the product
• Understand customers and the impact of the product on their lives
• Help scale-up and build a world class global banking product by solving technical challenges
• Develop and maintain the Payin Platform internal API
• Facilitate money inflows for various use-cases like top-ups and cross-border payments

Required Qualifications

• Great communication skills and the ability to articulate complex, technical concepts to non-technical audiences
• Ability to work independently while also being a good team player with frequent cross-team collaboration
• Ability to break down complex projects into incremental milestones that deliver customer value
• Experience in developing web applications and distributed systems in a production environment
• Experience with common design and architectural patterns coupled with a passion for writing clean code that is performant and well tested

Preferred Qualifications

• Curiosity and drive for continuous learning and improvement
• Following and advocating best coding practices, continuous delivery and code reviews
• Experience working with relational and non-relational databases, query optimisation and designing schemas
• Knowledge of Java and Spring Boot and experience with a messaging system, like Kafka
