About the Role

Wise is building the future of global money movement and we're expanding in Latin America with a new São Paulo engineering hub. As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll be a foundational member of our high-impact LatAm teams, focusing on Onboarding (Consumer & Business) and Money Movement. You'll integrate with local banks, payment schemes, and verification partners to create seamless customer experiences across diverse markets, while shaping global KYC/KYB and payment systems in collaboration with international teams. This role offers the chance to lead technical direction, mentor engineers, and build a best-in-class engineering culture from the ground up. You'll design scalable solutions for complex regulatory landscapes, optimize onboarding funnels, and drive regional expansion. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy features for Consumer & Business Onboarding and Money Movement in Latin American markets
• Implement integrations with local banks, payment providers, and verification vendors
• Connect Wise platform to local payment schemes across the region
• Optimize onboarding workflows and automate compliance checks (KYC/KYB)
• Propose scalable, reliable technical designs compliant with LatAm regulations
• Participate in code and design reviews to elevate engineering standards
• Collaborate with global cross-functional teams on product vision and technical implementation
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to São Paulo engineering hub growth

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience in building scalable backend systems
• Proven experience with financial services, payments, or fintech integrations
• Deep knowledge of KYC/KYB processes and compliance requirements
• Strong experience designing and implementing APIs and microservices
• Track record of mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives
• Excellent problem-solving skills for complex technical challenges

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Latin American payment schemes and banking integrations
• Familiarity with identity verification vendors and regulatory landscapes in LatAm
• Background in high-growth fintech companies or global expansion projects
