About the Role

Wise is a global technology company revolutionizing how the world moves and manages money with min fees, max ease, and full speed. Join the Global KYC and Onboarding squad in the Servicing department, where our mission is to empower Wise teams to expand and fine-tune the business globally through simple config changes, all while staying compliant and safe for customers. We're building a brand new Onboarding Platform to overcome scalability limits of our current KYC infrastructure, collaborating across Business Onboarding Verification, Personal Onboarding Verification, and Wise Platform Verification teams. As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll be the key engineering partner acting across fully cross-functional teams (with Analysts, Designers, Data Scientists, and Engineers) owning end-to-end FinCrime Controls—from triggers and UX to ML automation, manual reviews, and customer capabilities. With 10+ years of experience, you'll architect scalable domain-driven solutions, take broad ownership of roadmaps, mentor engineers, and drive contributions to company-wide goals. Success means inspiring open teams, understanding customer impact, and scaling a world-class product for millions. Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a strong Engineering partner across teams and functions in the squad to expedite work on the Onboarding Platform
  • Drive engineering solutions and suggest future challenges
  • Understand customers and the impact of the product on their lives
  • Make contributions to the wider engineering goals of the company
  • Inspire a team environment where ideas are shared and openness is valued
  • Help scale-up and build a world-class money product that impacts millions of customers
  • Build roadmaps and scope responsibilities for the squad
  • Mentor teams on technical and product roadmaps

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant experience in Java or other JVM-based languages
  • 2+ years of experience in architecting large scale systems with proven ability to propose and implement domain-driven technical solutions capable of scaling along with the business
  • Willingness to take broad ownership of squad responsibilities (building roadmaps, scoping) while mentoring teams on their technical and product roadmaps
  • Experience in up-levelling junior engineers and providing guidance to senior engineers via processes and setting a high bar for them to follow
  • Proactive, effective communicator who is able to describe technical concepts to non-technical audiences and eager to learn new domains with a strong bias towards action
