Advanced Practice Professional (NP or PA) - Urgent Care at WVU Medicine Grant Memorial Hospital

Role Overview

WVU Medicine is seeking a dedicated and skilled Advanced Practice Professional (APP), either a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA), to join our Urgent Care team at Grant Memorial Hospital (GMH) in Keyser, West Virginia. As an APP, you will play a crucial role in assessing, diagnosing, and treating a wide range of medical conditions, while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest quality of patient care.

Day in the Life

As an APP in our Urgent Care, your day will be varied and challenging. You will be responsible for conducting thorough patient assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, developing treatment plans, and performing minor procedures.   • Evaluating patients presenting with acute illnesses and injuries.

Responsibilities

  • Manage comprehensive and individualized care for emergency medicine patients and their families in the DEM and immediate post discharge in the ambulatory setting.
  • Coordinate hospitalization if necessary.
  • Complete pre-procedure evaluations.
  • Complete integrated assessments, including biological, social, and psychological aspects.
  • Order additional tests or consults as deemed appropriate, with the collaboration of emergency medicine faculty or by following established clinical Guidelines and Protocols.
  • Perform and communicate results of diagnostic tests following established clinical guidelines and scope of practice.
  • Consult and communicate with DEM clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings in the evaluations of patients.
  • Perform succinct comprehensive clinical evaluations and document findings in medical record.
  • Facilitate patient DEM discharge by coordinating appropriate services and tests prior to discharge necessary for outpatient follow-up appointments in the clinic (as applicable).
  • Coordinate involvement of medical/surgical specialty teams necessary to develop a comprehensive plan for the patient.
  • Review the plan of care with the other members of the clinical team.
  • Participate in directing patient care.
  • Perform diagnostic/therapeutic procedures within the scope of practice.
  • Coordinate discharge planning/follow-up (as applicable).
  • Participate in the education of residents and medical/nursing students.
  • Provide healthcare services consistent with state law and the requirements of the professional licensing or certification authority and/or hospital privileges, where applicable.
