  • Assist patients and providers with medical office visits.
  • Administer prescribed medication under the supervision of an attending provider.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative tests and examinations of specimens.
  • Obtain and document patients’ specimens as ordered.
  • Document and report test results to the medical provider.
  • Perform assigned and/or all ordered Point of Care Testing (POCT) tests after training and skills testing and maintain quality control testing and logs.
  • Schedule additional ancillary testing as needed.
  • Act as a chaperone during medical examinations.
  • Ensure medical records and test results are available for visits, including those from referring physicians.
  • Inspect/review medical records to maintain correct order and completeness.
  • Monitor the nurse call system and relay information to appropriate staff.
  • Answer telephone calls and transmit information to appropriate staff.
  • Provide assistance and information to patients, families, and visitors as instructed by the physician.
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance Program to assure quality patient services are provided.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to medical staff to assure patients' needs are met and to assure efficient operation of the outpatient unit.
  • Assist providers in completing requisitions or forms for patient examination or testing.
  • Ensure the availability of test results for patient visits.
  • Assist patients and providers with medical office visits.
  • Administer prescribed medication under the supervision of an attending provider.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative tests and examinations of specimens.
  • Obtain and document patients’ specimens as ordered.
  • Document and report test results to the medical provider.
  • Perform assigned and/or all ordered Point of Care Testing (POCT) tests after training and skills testing and maintain quality control testing and logs.
  • Schedule additional ancillary testing as needed.
  • Act as a chaperone during medical examinations.
  • Ensure medical records and test results are available for visits, including those from referring physicians.
  • Inspect/review medical records to maintain correct order and completeness.
  • Monitor the nurse call system and relay information to appropriate staff.
  • Answer telephone calls and transmit information to appropriate staff.
  • Provide assistance and information to patients, families, and visitors as instructed by the physician.
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance Program to assure quality patient services are provided.
  • Generate required patient charge data according to WVU Medicine outpatient procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining an appropriate inventory of supplies and equipment for patient care needs by preparing orders and reporting needs to the supervisor.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the use and care of all equipment, including printers, embossers, and computers.
  • Assist with the maintenance of inventory and equipment on the assigned outpatient unit.
  • Schedule and coordinate new and return appointments using a computerized system according to WVU Medicine outpatient clinic policy and procedures.
  • Schedule and coordinate diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures.
  • Assure registration of patients.
  • Collect vital information from patients.
