Responsibilities

  • Set up and maintain low-flow oxygen devices (6 LPM or less), including nasal cannulas and simple masks, under supervision
  • Set up and maintain aerosol devices with FiO2 of equal to or less than 50% under supervision
  • Deliver medications through spontaneous small-volume nebulizers under supervision
  • Administer medications via Metered Dose Inhalers (MDIs) or dry powder inhalers under supervision
  • Measure peak flow, perform simple spirometry, and monitor pulse oximetry under supervision
  • Administer airway clearance devices or techniques, including therapy vests, chest physiotherapy, incentive spirometry, suctioning via artificial airway, and positive expiratory pressure therapies, under supervision
  • Communicate effectively with other members of the healthcare team regarding all aspects of patient care
  • Assist with patient and family/caregiver education in collaboration with other healthcare team members
  • Document patient care activities and observations accurately and completely
  • Adhere to hospital policies and procedures, including infection control and safety guidelines
  • Participate in continuing education and training programs to maintain competency
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Monitor patient response to therapy and report any adverse reactions or changes in condition to the supervising therapist
  • Collaborate with the supervising therapist to develop and implement patient care plans
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to patients and families
  • Advocate for patient needs and preferences
  • Participate in team meetings and quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and protect patient privacy
  • Demonstrate professionalism and ethical conduct in all interactions
