Required Qualifications

  • Current licensure as a Student Respiratory Care Permit through the West Virginia Board of Respiratory Care. (experience)
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire date. (experience)
  • Enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program. (experience)
  • Knowledge of respiratory therapy principles and practices. (experience)
  • Understanding of patient safety protocols. (experience)
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under direct supervision. (experience)
  • Proficiency in performing basic respiratory therapy procedures. (experience)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. (experience)
  • Ability to document patient care accurately and efficiently. (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Setting up and maintaining low flow oxygen devices of 6 LPM or less, including nasal cannula and simple masks.
  • Setting up and maintaining aerosol devices with Fi02 of equal to or less than 50%.
  • Delivering medications through a spontaneous small volume nebulizer.
  • Delivering medications via Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI) or dry powder inhaler.
  • Measuring peak flow, performing simple spirometry, and pulse oximetry.
  • Administering airway clearance devices or techniques, including therapy vest, chest physiotherapy, incentive spirometry, suctioning via artificial airway, and positive expiratory pressure therapies.
  • Communicating appropriately and effectively with other members of the healthcare team regarding all aspects of patient care.
  • Providing assistance with patient and family/caregiver education along with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Monitoring patients' respiratory status and reporting any changes or concerns to the supervising therapist.
  • Documenting all respiratory therapy interventions and patient responses accurately and completely.
  • Ensuring proper cleaning and maintenance of respiratory therapy equipment.
  • Adhering to all hospital policies and procedures related to patient safety and infection control.
  • Participating in continuing education and professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Assisting with the transport of patients to and from the respiratory therapy department.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
  • Providing emotional support and encouragement to patients and their families.
  • Responding to emergency situations and providing appropriate respiratory care interventions.
  • Following all HIPAA guidelines to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes.
  • Assisting with the training and orientation of new respiratory therapy students.
  • Attending team meetings and providing input on patient care issues.
  • Adhering to ethical and professional standards of respiratory therapy practice.
  • Promoting a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Contributing to a culture of safety and excellence in patient care.
