Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (experience)
  • Current West Virginia Paramedic Licensure through the West Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services (experience)
  • Nationally registered Paramedic through National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), unless state license is State License Only (SLO) (experience)
  • CPR certification (experience)

  • One (1) year of pre-hospital/emergency medical services experience (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors entering the Emergency Department with a welcoming and helpful demeanor.
  • Perform routine tests such as phlebotomy (blood draws), blood glucose monitoring, and electrocardiograms (EKGs) accurately and efficiently.
  • Perform IV insertions under the direct supervision and guidance of a physician, adhering to strict protocols and safety measures.
  • Provide comprehensive patient care, including assisting with patient procedures and supporting activities of daily living (ADL).
  • Assist with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies as directed by the healthcare team.
  • Safely transport stable patients on cardiac monitors to inpatient units, ensuring continuous monitoring and patient well-being.
  • Provide clear and concise instructions to patients and families under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), promoting understanding and adherence to care plans.
  • Obtain routine vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiratory rate (TPR), blood pressure (BP), and oxygen saturation (O2 STAT), accurately documenting findings in the patient's medical record.
  • Assist with applying and removing physical restraints as needed, following established protocols and prioritizing patient safety and comfort.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked work environment, ensuring availability of necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Document patient care activities accurately and thoroughly in the electronic health record (EHR), adhering to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Participate in continuing education programs and training sessions to maintain and enhance clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Respond to emergency situations quickly and effectively, providing immediate assistance and support to the healthcare team.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations at all times.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated and comprehensive patient care.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Report any unusual incidents or observations to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and respect in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Advocate for patient rights and ensure patient needs are met.
  • Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families during times of stress and uncertainty.
