Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive high-quality medical nutrition therapy to patients of all ages (infants, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics)
  • Complete physician-ordered consults and instructions according to standards of care and document in the medical record
  • Contact the physician regarding any concerns, recommendations, etc., related to patient nutrition
  • Document NPO/Clear Liquid notes by day five and follow-up until nutrition is provided (unless contraindicated)
  • Complete and document calorie counts accurately; document a summary of calorie counts within 24 hours of completion if results warrant nutritional recommendations
  • Calculate and report results of nitrogen balance and metabolic cart studies accurately and in a timely manner
  • Complete and document nutrition assessments on high-risk patients according to standards of care
  • Assess the appropriateness of diet to diagnosis, adequacy of current tube feeding, infant formula, or parenteral nutrition orders
  • Assess laboratory values, drug-nutrient interactions, medical history, and current nutritional needs
  • Identify nutrition education needs and develop appropriate educational materials
  • Develop and document care plans, writing orders in the electronic medical record when nutrition intervention is needed for a patient
  • Utilize Order Writing Privileges (with physician co-signature) when the physician orders the “MNT Protocol”
  • Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient care
  • Participate in departmental meetings and quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain current knowledge of nutrition guidelines and best practices
  • Provide nutrition education to patients and their families
  • Monitor and evaluate patient progress, adjusting care plans as needed
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and hospital policies
  • Assist in the development and implementation of nutrition-related policies and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive high-quality medical nutrition therapy to patients of all ages (infants, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics)
  • Complete physician-ordered consults and instructions according to standards of care and document in the medical record
  • Contact the physician regarding any concerns, recommendations, etc., related to patient nutrition
  • Document NPO/Clear Liquid notes by day five and follow-up until nutrition is provided (unless contraindicated)
  • Complete and document calorie counts accurately; document a summary of calorie counts within 24 hours of completion if results warrant nutritional recommendations
  • Calculate and report results of nitrogen balance and metabolic cart studies accurately and in a timely manner
  • Complete and document nutrition assessments on high-risk patients according to standards of care
  • Assess the appropriateness of diet to diagnosis, adequacy of current tube feeding, infant formula, or parenteral nutrition orders
  • Assess laboratory values, drug-nutrient interactions, medical history, and current nutritional needs
  • Identify nutrition education needs and develop appropriate educational materials
  • Develop and document care plans, writing orders in the electronic medical record when nutrition intervention is needed for a patient
  • Utilize Order Writing Privileges (with physician co-signature) when the physician orders the “MNT Protocol”
  • Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient care
  • Participate in departmental meetings and quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain current knowledge of nutrition guidelines and best practices
  • Provide nutrition education to patients and their families
  • Monitor and evaluate patient progress, adjusting care plans as needed
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and hospital policies
  • Assist in the development and implementation of nutrition-related policies and procedures
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive work environment
  • Stay updated on new research and advancements in the field of dietetics
  • Participate in continuing education activities to maintain licensure and registration
  • Serve as a resource for other healthcare professionals on nutrition-related topics
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of new dietitians and dietetic interns
  • Promote the role of the clinical dietitian within the organization
