- Raise side rails as indicated and apply restraints under the direction of a registered nurse.
- Implement fall protocol under the direction of a registered nurse.
- Collect and record vital signs as instructed by the nurse.
- Provide measures to meet patients' comfort needs.
- Collect and prepare specimens according to policy and procedure.
- Administer care and treatments for patients as instructed by the nurse, including bathing, perineal care, catheter care, and oral hygiene.
- Apply hot or cold compresses and obtain TPR/Blood pressures.
- Obtain Intake and output and ambulate patients.
- Turn and position patients and apply assistive devices.
- Perform 12-lead EKG and oral suctioning with yankers catheter.
- Perform basic routine duties every shift, including distributing fresh water, disposing of soiled linen, and maintaining a clean and orderly unit.
- Maintain and stock unit supplies.
- Practice clean and sterile technique in the delivery of patient care while maintaining Body Substance Isolation.
- Gather information relative to patient's status to identify the age-specific needs of each patient and report this to the nurse.
- Maintain an understanding of treatment necessary for each patient and provide appropriate care based on their age-specific needs.
- Perform food and nutritional duties, including the distribution of snacks and supplements.
- Assist patients with meals and supplements as needed.
- Keep the nurse informed about department activities or problems.
- Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
