  • Collect specimens when requested such as nasal swabs, nasopharyngeal collections, throat cultures, and skin scrapings.
  • Ensure proper tube usage and label specimens with appropriate information. Specimen preparation may include accessioning, centrifuging, and aliquoting.
  • Submit specimens to Medical Technologists and Medical Laboratory Technicians for testing.
  • Confirm/process patient information regarding laboratory testing from outside agencies/satellite facilities utilizing computer systems.
  • Maintain laboratory work area in a clean and orderly condition; dispose of contaminated supplies and materials in the proper waste container.
  • Maintain, request, order, and stock supplies as necessary to keep materials available at all times.
  • Receive specimens into the laboratory from all areas and properly processes them into the department via LIS.
  • Answer telephones and responds to calls, providing excellent customer service.
  • Perform all procedures in a professional manner while maintaining patient dignity.
