  • Provides education to patients and their families/caregivers regarding respiratory conditions, treatment options, and self-management techniques, in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Actively participates in departmental quality assurance and hospital-wide organizational performance improvement activities, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
  • Performs basic and advanced diagnostic procedures for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients as ordered by a physician, including arterial blood gas sampling and analysis, pulmonary function testing, and bedside spirometry.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic and advanced therapeutic procedures for neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients as prescribed by a physician.
  • Assembles, checks, and corrects malfunctions of respiratory care equipment; performs quality controls to ensure proper functioning.
  • Initiates, maintains, and discontinues mechanical ventilation for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients, adjusting parameters as needed under physician orders.
  • Communicates effectively and appropriately with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members regarding all aspects of patient care, including assessment findings, treatment plans, and patient progress.
  • Provides education to patients and their families/caregivers regarding respiratory conditions, treatment options, and self-management techniques, in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Actively participates in departmental quality assurance and hospital-wide organizational performance improvement activities, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
  • Performs basic and advanced diagnostic procedures for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients as ordered by a physician, including arterial blood gas sampling and analysis, pulmonary function testing, and bedside spirometry.
  • Administers prescribed respiratory therapeutic services, including oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, chest physiotherapy, and airway clearance techniques.
  • Monitors patient response to respiratory therapy interventions, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Documents all respiratory therapy interventions and patient responses accurately and completely in the electronic health record.
  • Participates in continuing education and professional development activities to maintain and enhance clinical competence.
  • Responds to emergency situations, providing respiratory support and airway management as needed.
  • Assists with bronchoscopy procedures, providing respiratory support and monitoring patient status.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare providers to develop and implement individualized respiratory care plans.
  • Ensures compliance with all hospital policies and procedures, as well as regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment, ensuring that all equipment is properly stored and maintained.
