RESUME AND JOB
WVU Medicine
As a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department (ED) at Berkeley Medical Center (BMC), you will be at the forefront of patient care, providing rapid assessment, intervention, and stabilization for individuals experiencing a wide range of medical emergencies. This role demands a high level of clinical skill, critical thinking, and the ability to work effectively under pressure. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, technicians, and other healthcare professionals to deliver timely and efficient care, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Your responsibilities will include performing initial patient assessments, triaging patients based on the severity of their condition, administering medications and treatments, monitoring vital signs, and providing emotional support to patients and their families. You will also be responsible for documenting patient care accurately and completely, and for communicating effectively with other members of the healthcare team.
Your day as an ED RN at BMC will be fast-paced and unpredictable. You might start your shift by receiving report from the outgoing nurse, reviewing patient charts, and preparing your workstation. Soon after, you could be called to assess a patient arriving with chest pain, followed by a trauma victim, and then a child with a high fever. Each patient will require your full attention and expertise to quickly assess their condition and initiate appropriate interventions.
Throughout the day, you will be administering medications, inserting IVs, drawing blood, performing wound care, and assisting with various procedures. You will also be communicating with physicians, updating them on patient status, and implementing their orders. In between patient encounters, you will be documenting your care, restocking supplies, and participating in team huddles to coordinate patient flow.
No two days are the same in the ED. You will need to be adaptable, resourceful, and able to prioritize tasks effectively. You will also need to be able to remain calm and focused in stressful situations, and to provide compassionate care to patients and their families during their time of crisis.
