As the Lead Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) in Internal Medicine at University Health Associates East (UHAE), you will play a crucial role in providing leadership, expertise, and support to Medical Assistants and Ambulatory Care Assistants. This position requires a highly skilled and experienced CMA who can perform basic nursing skills under the direction and supervision of the practice physician and registered nursing staff. You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the clinical area, training new staff, and providing guidance to ensure the highest quality of patient care.
Your day will be dynamic and varied. It starts with preparing the exam rooms, ensuring they are clean, well-stocked, and ready for patients. You'll greet patients, escort them to the exam rooms, and collect initial information and vital signs, setting the stage for the physician's visit. You'll assist with examinations, tests, and procedures, providing direct support to the provider. Throughout the day, you’ll schedule appointments, coordinate referrals, educate patients on follow-up care, and maintain quality control logs. A significant part of your role involves mentoring and training new MAs and ACAs, ensuring they are well-prepared to provide excellent patient care. You'll also handle any issues that arise in the back office, serving as the primary point of contact and providing guidance to your team. In the absence of the supervisor or manager, you’ll step in to oversee the staff and ensure everything runs smoothly.

The estimated salary range for this position is $35,000 to $55,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent, current National Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire. Two years of Medical Assistant experience is also required.
An Associates Degree in a healthcare-related field is preferred but not required.
The physical requirements include medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly. The ability to bend, stoop, reach, and stand for an 8-12 hour shift is also required.
The working environment involves working closely with others, potentially working protracted or irregular hours, working around biohazards and infectious diseases, and working with hands in water. Travel between facilities may be required.
Important skills and abilities include effective communication, the ability to perform basic nursing skills, the ability to provide direction and guidance to staff, and the ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
