As a Medical Assistant at WVU Medicine, you will be responsible for assisting physicians and nurses in providing patient care. Your duties will include greeting patients, taking vital signs, preparing exam rooms, assisting with procedures, and educating patients on follow-up care. Your day will start with preparing the exam rooms for patients, ensuring they are clean, well-stocked, and ready for the day's appointments. As patients arrive, you'll greet them with a warm smile, take their vital signs, and update their medical history in the electronic health record (EHR) system. You'll then escort them to the exam room and prepare them for their appointment with the physician or nurse practitioner.
During the patient examination, you may assist the provider by handing instruments, documenting findings, and providing support to the patient. You'll also be responsible for administering injections, drawing blood, and performing other procedures as directed by the provider. After the examination, you'll educate the patient on their treatment plan and schedule any follow-up appointments or referrals.
In addition to direct patient care, you'll also handle administrative tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and processing paperwork. You'll work closely with other members of the healthcare team to ensure that patients receive the best possible care.
