  • Coordinate patient flow through assigned areas

  • Accurately log and file patient information as requested
  • Fax signed release of information consent to appropriate facility as requested
  • Obtain radiology results from WVUH/UHA systems as requested by MD
  • Contact outside facilities and ancillary departments for recent patient testing results as requested by MD
  • Deliver faxed testing results to the MD for review
  • Obtain and document patient data such as age, height, weight, intakes and outputs, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, allergies, medication/immunization list, and patient functional screening as requested by MD. Report abnormal findings to RN/MD.
  • Perform adult and pediatric phlebotomy and capillary puncture as ordered
  • Obtain patient point of care and clinical lab specimens as ordered; accurately complete quality control testing and documentation
  • Arrange specimen transport to laboratory assuring delivery within half-hour of collection
  • Answer patient phone calls, document information, and report to MD
  • Call patients with instructions from physician; document telephone encounter
  • Complete patient phone calls to verify appointment date and times; document telephone encounter
  • Schedule appointments as necessary
  • Report changes in patient’s condition to a RN / MD
  • Check the integrity of the patient’s monitoring, invasive devices, and oxygen as requested and report back to MD; intervene in emergency situations to ensure patient safety
  • Assist health care team in emptying wound drains, urinary catheter, and other catheter drainage units
  • Assist health care team by performing tasks such as answering phones, paging staff, and minor clerical duties in the designated area under the supervision of a physician
  • Provide total care within scope of practice, related to activities of daily living
  • Assist with procedures and examinations as directed by the physician or nurse.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and infection control guidelines.
  • Participate in continuing education and training programs.
