The minimum qualifications depend on your hire date. If hired prior to 1997, a high school diploma or equivalent is required. If hired after 1997, graduation from a Medical Assistant Program is required. In both cases, certification in Basic Life Support or Heart Saver First Aid is required within 30 days of hire date.
Registration or certification as a Medical Assistant is preferred but not required.
The core duties include collecting patient data, coordinating patient flow, performing phlebotomy, administering injections, assisting with examinations, and providing patient education.
Important skills include excellent communication, teamwork, time management, organization, and proficiency in using electronic health records systems.
Opportunities for advancement include Senior Medical Assistant, Clinical Supervisor, and specialized roles in areas such as oncology or cardiology.
