As a Medical Assistant at WVU Medicine, you will be responsible for assisting physicians and nurses in providing patient care. Your duties will include:
Your day as a Medical Assistant at WVU Medicine will be fast-paced and dynamic. You might start by preparing exam rooms for the day's appointments, ensuring that all necessary supplies are readily available. As patients arrive, you will greet them with a warm smile and escort them to the appropriate room. You will then take their vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rate, and document them accurately in the patient's chart.
Throughout the day, you will assist physicians and nurses with various procedures, such as administering injections, drawing blood, and performing EKGs. You will also be responsible for educating patients about their medications and treatment plans, answering any questions they may have. In between patient appointments, you will schedule follow-up visits, manage referrals, and maintain accurate patient records.
You will also play a vital role in maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients and staff. This includes sterilizing instruments, disposing of medical waste properly, and following infection control protocols.

The minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent, graduation from a Medical Assistant Program OR one (1) year of clinical experience, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
Preferred qualifications include completion of healthcare education course work and one (1) year of healthcare experience.
The physical requirements include medium work, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly. You must also be able to bend, stoop, reach, and rotate, as well as stand and walk for 8-12 hour shifts.
The working environment involves working closely with others, potentially working protracted or irregular hours, and exposure to biohazards and infectious diseases. You may also be required to work with your hands in water and travel between facilities.
You must have the ability to use and care for all equipment, including printers, embossers, and computers, and effectively communicate with staff, patients, and physicians.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within 30 days of hire.
