The minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent, completion of a Medical Assistant Program OR one (1) year of clinical experience, and certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
While not always mandatory to start, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within 30 days of hire. Depending on the practice, other certifications may be encouraged or required, like Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
Preferred qualifications include completion of healthcare education coursework and one (1) year of healthcare experience.
Core responsibilities include greeting and escorting patients, preparing exam rooms, obtaining vital signs, assisting with exams, scheduling appointments, educating patients, and maintaining medical equipment.
This position requires the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly. It also requires the ability to bend, stoop, reach, and be capable of normal rotation, standing, and walking for an 8-12 hour shift.
The working environment involves working closely with others, potentially working protracted or irregular hours, and exposure to biohazards and infectious diseases. It may also require working with hands in water and traveling between facilities.
Required skills and abilities include the ability to use and care for equipment such as printers, embossers, and computers, as well as the ability to effectively communicate with staff and patients.
