Responsibilities

  • Decontamination, cleaning, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation for all hospital departments, physician offices, and rural health clinics.
  • Properly prepare instruments for processing.
  • Receive, inspect, and sterilize instruments, towels, basins, special packs, into sealed packages and sterilize according to manufacturer’s instructions for use and returns them to the appropriate departments.
  • Identify load numbers, sterilization dates, and expiration dates on all processed supplies.
  • Maintain load records listing all supplies run in every load.
  • Perform biological/spore testing as directed in policy.
  • Operate and maintain the autoclaves according to policy, including weekly (and as needed for soiling) cleaning and reports any malfunction to the OR Manager.
  • Maintain Central Supply as a clean, sterile environment.
  • Ensure adequate supplies for the Central Supply Department and cleaning supplies by bi-weekly ordering.
  • Monitor sterilized instruments for outdates and re-wraps as indicated.
