Responsibilities
- Providing intraoperative care to patients as a scrub person, assisting the surgical team during operative procedures.
- Utilizing quality aseptic technique when working in sterile and unsterile roles within the operating room (OR).
- Assisting the circulating registered nurse (RN) in monitoring the technique of all persons in the OR to maintain a sterile field.
- Performing sponge, instrument, and needle counts with the circulating RN following established guidelines.
- Assisting with gowning and gloving surgeons and positioning equipment and instruments.
- Passing sterile instruments to the surgical team during surgical procedures with precision and accuracy.
- Assisting with transportation and positioning of patients, including assisting the surgical team by holding retractors and positioning the operative limb under the surgeon's direction.
- Preparing supplies and equipment for surgical procedures following established preference cards and ensuring all necessary items are readily available.
- Assisting with the sterilization and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment to ensure a safe and efficient operating environment.
- Monitoring inventory levels, ordering supplies, and restocking instruments and equipment to maintain adequate stock levels.
- Removing outdated items and discarding or reprocessing them following established guidelines to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety.
- Assisting with general cleaning duties within the department to maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Performing equipment checks as assigned to ensure proper functionality and identify any maintenance needs.
- Assisting with the proper recording of patient charges to ensure accurate billing and financial tracking.
