Senior Physician and APP Recruiter - WVU Medicine

Role Overview

WVU Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Physician and APP (Advanced Practice Provider) Recruiter to join our Talent Acquisition team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the full-cycle recruitment process for physician and APP positions across our growing healthcare system. You will partner with department leaders, search committees, and other stakeholders to develop and execute effective recruitment strategies that attract top talent and meet the organization's staffing needs. This position requires a strong understanding of physician and APP recruitment best practices, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Day in the Life

As a Senior Physician and APP Recruiter, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing comprehensive recruitment strategies for physician and APP positions.
  • Sourcing and screening candidates through various channels, including online job boards, professional networking sites, and industry events.
  • Conducting behavioral-based interviews to assess candidates' qualifications, experience, and cultural fit.
  • Collaborating with department leaders and search committees to develop job descriptions and selection criteria.
  • Coordinating the interview process, including scheduling interviews, arranging travel, and providing feedback to candidates.
  • Negotiating offers of employment and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Managing the onboarding process for new physicians and APPs, including credentialing, licensing, and orientation.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including department leaders, medical staff, and external recruitment partners.
  • Tracking and reporting on recruitment metrics, such as time-to-fill, cost-per-hire, and candidate satisfaction.
  • Staying up-to-date on industry trends and best practices in physician and APP recruitment.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or related field AND two (2) years of professional Human Resources, Physician Recruitment, sales or marketing experience. (experience)
  • Bachelor’s degree AND four (4) years of professional Human Resources, Physician Recruitment, sales or marketing experience. (experience)
  • Valid driver’s license (experience)
  • Fellow of Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (FASPR) - Preferred (experience)
  • Certification as a Professional Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, Certified Strategic Work Force Planner (SWP), and/or Certified Employee Retention Profession (CERP) - Preferred (experience)
  • Experience with an emphasis in recruitment, retention, and employment compliance such as Affirmative Action, Immigration, Stark Laws, etc. - Preferred (experience)
  • Recent work experience in healthcare setting - Preferred (experience)
  • Strong understanding of physician and advanced practice provider recruitment best practices. (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates Physician/ Provider Recruitment & Retention: Participates in and coordinates the physician/provider recruitment interview and selection process.
  • Utilizes behavioral based interviewing process for all candidates that target and select candidates who possess the values and meet the expectations set forth for employees.
  • Advises appropriate search chairs, department chairs and other individuals to develop the recruitment process and the selection process to facilitate selection of the most appropriate candidate.
  • Develops recruitment and retention strategies to achieve required staffing levels
  • Develops recruitment strategies, practices, and processes that focus on the candidate experience.
  • Develops in conjunction with the Marketing department, branding, social media, and advertising efforts to support physician/provider recruitment.
  • Develops specific recruiting plans and promotes vacancies through branding and marketing efforts and materials.
  • Coordinates hiring process for physicians /providers assuring completion of required processes including credentialing, sanction searches, references, visa applications, and benefit reviews.
  • Assists in completing and reporting monthly and as needed turnover and vacancy reports.
  • Works with physician/provider department leadership to develop job descriptions for each position.
  • Review benefits and compensation package with prospective candidates.
  • Develops and completes exit interviews with departing physicians/provider.
  • Analyzes exit interview feedback and makes recommendations for improvement.
