  • Collect and analyze arterial blood gas samples to assess patient oxygenation, ventilation, and acid-base balance.
  • Conduct pulmonary function testing to evaluate lung function and diagnose respiratory disorders.
  • Educate patients and their families about respiratory therapy treatments, medications, and disease management strategies.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary patient care conferences to discuss patient progress and coordinate care plans.
  • Document patient assessments, treatments, and responses in the electronic medical record accurately and completely.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, following infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infection.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, providing respiratory support and assisting with resuscitation efforts.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Participate in continuing education programs to maintain and enhance professional competence.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including safety regulations and patient confidentiality guidelines.
  • Assist with the training and orientation of new respiratory therapy staff.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the delivery of respiratory care services.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly sterilized and maintained according to manufacturer guidelines.
  • Provide support and education to patients and families on the use of respiratory equipment at home, if applicable.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements and best practices in respiratory therapy.
  • Attend departmental meetings and contribute to discussions on improving patient care and departmental efficiency.
