Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) (experience)
  • Two (2) years (BSN) or Four (4) years (ADN) experience in area of practice (experience)
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia or multi-state eNLC license (experience)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire (experience)
  • Preferred certification in area of specialty (e.g., CNOR) (experience)
  • Knowledge of nursing principles and practices (experience)
  • Understanding of surgical procedures and equipment (experience)
  • Experience with performance improvement initiatives (experience)
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for healthcare facilities (experience)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate clinical education and professional development activities for nursing staff in surgical services.
  • Maintain consistent standards of practice and competencies in patient care delivery.
  • Support unit leadership team with effective leadership, communication, and conflict resolution.
  • Conduct rounds communicating with charge RNs, OR control desk, college staff, and surgeons to ensure cases proceed as planned.
  • Review OR schedule in advance for case needs, including staff training, equipment, implants, and specialty items.
  • Expedite first case on-time starts and room turnover to meet OR efficiency and quality benchmarks.
  • Update surgeon preference cards and college instrumentation trays; participate in capital equipment planning.
  • Partner with SPD, Supply Chain Operations, nursing departments, and physician offices to meet patient care needs.
  • Monitor vendors in patient care areas following Healthcare Industry Representative policies/procedures.
  • Participate in inventory management: adjusting PAR levels, monitoring for expired products, revising custom packs, performing value analysis.
  • Facilitate the nursing unit’s education plan for nursing orientation, staff development, continuing education, competency validation, patient education, and academic experiences.
  • Define and coordinate orientation and staff development needs for all college employees; individualize orientation/development, evaluate progress through goal setting, and conduct probationary/annual evaluations.
  • Assist in developing and assessing annual staff competencies to assure departmental staff members’ knowledge and skills fulfill service expectations.
  • Provide opportunities for interaction with employees to discuss professional growth, personal concerns, and educational goals.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of college staffing plan and FTEs to create a working staff college schedule monthly.
  • Lead performance management initiatives, including preparation for regulatory surveys.
  • Collaborate with managers to develop unit-specific goals and objectives.
  • Serve as a resource for nursing staff regarding policies, procedures, and clinical practice guidelines.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities to enhance patient safety and outcomes.
  • Promote a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Stay current with advances in nursing practice and surgical technology.
  • Assist with the onboarding of new nursing staff.
  • Mentor and precept new nurses.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide coordinated patient care.
  • Represent the nursing unit on hospital committees.
  • Participate in professional organizations and activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
