  • Assists the RN with indirect care by maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment to prevent and/or control infections and to provide for the safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Thoroughly cleans assigned patient care areas according to departmental procedures.
  • Thoroughly cleans assigned unit equipment according to schedule and/or need, and keeps hallways and work areas free of equipment according to departmental procedures.
  • May act in the role of a sitter for a patient as assigned by the charge RN.
  • May have limited access to medication including during transport of non-controlled substances at the request of a licensed care provider.
  • Assists with patient ambulation and transfers.
  • Collects specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Monitors vital signs and reports abnormalities.
  • Administers enemas and suppositories as directed by the RN.
  • Changes simple dressings under the supervision of the RN.
  • Assists with patient positioning and comfort measures.
  • Participates in patient care conferences and contributes to care planning.
  • Maintains accurate and complete documentation of patient care activities.
  • Responds to patient call lights and addresses their needs promptly.
  • Provides emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Adheres to all hospital policies and procedures.
