Responsibilities

  • Perform duties of a Certified Surgical Technician II
  • Assist in patient positioning to ensure comfort and surgical access
  • Placement of pneumatic tourniquet to control blood flow during surgery
  • Urinary catheter placement to manage patient fluid balance
  • Assist with holding or manipulation of surgical instruments intraoperatively as directed by the surgeon to enhance surgical precision
  • Prepping of the surgical site including draping patient with surgeon’s guidelines to maintain sterility
  • Maintain hemostasis by any manner to include but not limited to clamping, cauterizing or ligating as directed by surgeon to minimize bleeding
  • Provide retraction and manipulation of tissue and organs with regard to tissue type and appropriate technique as directed by the surgeon to improve visualization
  • Assist in placement and suturing of surgical drains to facilitate wound healing
  • Closure of any and all layers of wounds as per surgeon’s directive to ensure proper tissue approximation
  • Assist with all procedures under direction of the surgeon to support comprehensive patient care
  • Maintain integrity of sterile field to prevent infection
  • Ensure all surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and available
  • Monitor patient vital signs during procedures and report any abnormalities to the surgeon
  • Document all surgical activities accurately and completely in patient records
