Role Overview

The Engineering Manager, Release Engineering will lead a newly formed team dedicated to transforming how Zapier ships, tests, and secures software at massive scale. This is a high-impact leadership role where you'll build systems that empower hundreds of engineers to deliver reliable, secure code faster than ever before.

Key Responsibilities

1. Build and lead a Release Engineering team focused on CI/CD modernization, testing infrastructure, and security tooling
2. Design scalable delivery pipelines that support thousands of daily deployments across microservices architecture
3. Implement software supply chain security best practices including SBOM generation, artifact signing, and provenance tracking
4. Modernize testing frameworks to eliminate flakiness and enable reliable parallel test execution at scale
5. Partner with product engineering teams to map developer workflows and eliminate tooling friction points
6. Drive observability improvements with comprehensive deployment metrics, failure analysis, and health dashboards
7. Reduce operational toil by automating release guardrails, rollback procedures, and compliance checks
8. Foster distributed ownership model where teams own their release processes with platform team support
9. Collaborate with security, reliability, and platform teams to create cohesive infrastructure strategy
10. Mentor engineers through technical projects, code reviews, and career development planning
11. Present roadmaps and technical proposals to engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
12. Champion inclusive engineering practices and contribute to Zapier's remote-first culture
13. Measure success through DORA metrics (deployment frequency, lead time, MTTR, change failure rate)

Qualifications

Must Have:

• 5+ years managing infrastructure/platform engineering teams with CI/CD or testing focus
• Deep expertise in modern delivery architectures (GitOps, trunk-based development, progressive delivery)
• Experience modernizing legacy build/test systems in growing engineering organizations
• Strong supply chain security knowledge (SLSA, in-toto, artifact attestations)
• Proven ability to influence without authority across multiple engineering teams

Preferred:

• Experience with Kubernetes-based CI/CD (ArgoCD, Flux, Tekton)
• Background in observability platforms (Datadog, Grafana, OpenTelemetry)
• Success building developer platforms that reduced cognitive load for product teams
• Experience leading through company hypergrowth phases

Salary & Benefits

Competitive Compensation: Total compensation range of $120,000 - $200,000 USD annually, including base salary, equity, and performance bonuses. Exact offer based on experience and location.
