Role Overview

The Sr. Product Manager, AI Capabilities reports directly to Anna Marie Clifton, Head of Zapier's AI Orchestration and experimental AI workspace. This foundational role owns the platform powering ALL runtime AI products at Zapier – from intelligent Agents that autonomously complete workflows to sophisticated Chatbots and the core AI by Zapier capabilities.

Zapier processes billions of tasks monthly across 8,000+ app integrations. Your platform will make every AI experience smarter, faster, and more reliable. You'll eliminate redundancy by providing shared APIs, runtime infrastructure, and orchestration layers that let AI teams focus on delighting users rather than rebuilding infrastructure.

This is a ground-up build. You'll design the architecture, define success metrics, and scale the foundation that thousands of AI experiences will depend on. If you thrive at the intersection of AI innovation and platform engineering, this role will define your career.

Key Responsibilities

1. Platform Vision & Execution: Define and deliver the comprehensive vision for Zapier's AI Capabilities platform, ensuring it scales to support all current and future AI products.
2. API Leadership: Design and build shared APIs that power AI across Zapier's entire 8,000+ integration ecosystem, enabling seamless data flow and model interoperability.
3. Runtime Unification: Partner with product teams to consolidate disparate AI runtimes into a single, battle-tested orchestration layer that guarantees reliability at scale.
4. Developer Enablement: Create platform abstractions that hide LLM complexity, letting AI product managers deliver user-facing features 10x faster.
5. Metrics Definition: Establish comprehensive success metrics tracking platform quality, uptime (99.99%+), latency reduction, and developer velocity improvements.
6. Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate daily with engineering, design, and product leaders across Zapier's AI portfolio to align on technical requirements and user needs.
7. AI Innovation Translation: Convert bleeding-edge LLM research (multi-agent systems, RAG architectures, fine-tuning) into production-ready platform services.
8. Scalability Architecture: Architect for hyper-scale – your platform must handle millions of concurrent AI tasks across global data centers.
9. Reliability Engineering: Implement safeguards for AI safety, hallucination detection, and graceful failure modes across all platform services.
10. Developer Experience (DX): Build world-class tooling, documentation, and SDKs that make your platform the joy of every engineer's life.
11. Performance Monitoring: Create observability dashboards tracking every aspect of platform health, from token efficiency to cold-start latency.
12. Strategic Roadmapping: Publish quarterly roadmaps aligning platform evolution with Zapier's broader AI product strategy.
13. Team Leadership: Mentor junior PMs and guide cross-functional teams building your platform's core components.
14. Industry Leadership: Represent Zapier at AI conferences, contribute to open-source AI tooling, and shape industry standards for AI orchestration.

Qualifications

Must-Have Experience:

• 8+ years in product management, with 4+ years specifically in AI/ML platforms or infrastructure
• Technical depth: Can discuss LLM tokenization, vector databases, and orchestration patterns fluently
• Proven platform builder: Launched APIs/services used by 10+ internal teams
• Cross-functional mastery: Navigated engineering disagreements to ship on time
• Metrics obsession: Defined OKRs that drove measurable platform adoption

Ideal Background:

• Experience at integration/automation platforms (Segment, Tray.io, Workato)
• Built AI capabilities at scale (OpenAI, Anthropic, Scale AI, or similar)
• Deep LLM expertise: Fine-tuning, RAG, agentic workflows, evaluation frameworks
• Remote-first leadership in distributed engineering organizations

Salary & Benefits

Competitive Compensation: $185,000 - $250,000 USD base salary (depending on experience) + equity + 20% target bonus. Total compensation places this role in the top 10% for Sr. PMs in AI.
